THE
PROCESS OF GLOBALIZATION AND GLOBAL LANGUAGE
Globalization is a political, technological, economical and sociocultural aspect. It has diminished national borders and increased international trade and developed information exchange in communication, computer technologies and transportation system. The developments in these fields accelerated the formation of global village. International relations and interactions have increased. As a result of these developments, there emerged a serious need for a common language in world.
Every nation has a different language and it is very hard to provide wider communication among different people in this global village. It has been needed to unify all nations and provide an easy communication among these different nations. It was vital to invent a common language. People agreed on an international language but there was a disagreement on the selection of a common language. Because of this reason, people tried to find a common language several times. Several artificial languages were created; such as Esperanto and Interlingua. These artificial languages failed to spread over the world for some social, political

ESPERANTO |
It was needed for a global language mainly in 20th century. All languages could be an international language over the world but its owner had to have some features such as economic and political dominance, military power, technological developments etc. During these times, the western part of the world was introduced to capitalism by the United States through the economic aid programs. Thus, the capitalist thought began to expand more than ever. Furthermore, the collapse of the Soviet Union was another step which set off the root of globalization. The end of Cold War which resulted in the disintegration of Soviet Union speeded up the development of capitalism and free market economies. This disintegration speeded up this process because the collapse of Soviet Union was interpreted as the collapse of communism system which was an alternative system to capital thought. Globalization can be interpreted as the triumph of capitalism. United States has led the development of capitalism and globalization because it is the only superpower of the world.
Now, English
is spoken as a first language in United States, England and Canada. It is used
and spoken as an institutional language in Nigeria and India. It is regarded as
an international language in China, Greece and Japan. English is used as an
official and educational language in other parts of the world. Some people learn
and use English because of formal and occupational reasons. English has become
so common that the non-native speakers of English have outnumbered its native
speakers. It can be inferred from these figures that English is a global
language.
International relationships required people coming from different backgrounds, nations, cultures to communicate and English has been the most common language providing different people to communicate easily. Some reasons of it:
1- Two World Wars
They
increased the international relationships. People from different culture came together and affected each other socially and culturally.
2- Colonialism
Colonial
movements of Britain all over the world spread during the colonial period of
Britain. English affected several nations deeply and English spread over the
world. In other words, England’s colonial movement is one of the most important
reasons of English’s globalization process as a language.
3- Industrial revolution
England
became the most powerful and great country during the Industrial Revolution. England was leader all technological and scientific developments. It became more and more wealthy through mass production and profitable sales. Strong and wealthy England went to every edge of the world and took its language as well.
4- Popular culture
British and American people began to influence fashion trends in the world such as music and clothing. Popular culture led English to spread over the world. For example, Hollywood and its films became well-known and were seen all over the world. Hollywood carried English and American to every edge of the world. Currently, broadcasting companies transmitting their programs in English to very large groups and the globalization process of English is going on. International media has globally spread British and American culture and English.
5-
Mass
media
The
development of communication technologies has developed the radio, television
and film industry. These communication tools have strong effects over the large
populations. For example, in the cold War years, BBC became the source of
information throughout the Europe. Voice of America was established and it
spread American culture and English over the world. American television and
movies have important role in globalization of English. Computer and the
Internet carried English to every part of the world. English is a tool for
transmitting information, ideas via the Internet. For example, Three quarter of
the world send their e-mails in English. The more the use of the Internet
spreads, the more people begin to learn English.
A World language has some properties; large number of speakers non-native speakers, official importance in some countries, use in international trade relations, use in international organizations, use in the academic community.
The world’s widely used languages are English, Spanish, Arabic, French, and Chinese etc.
* The world’s most
commonly used language is currently English and it has over 1, 8 billion users.
* Spanish is another
common language throughout the world. Spanish is spoken in 20 sovereign states
as an official language. It is spoken and taught in schools officially.
* Arabic is also one of the most common languages in the world. Islamic conquests and Arabization of the Middle East and North Africa accelerated the spread of it. Arabic is also used commonly in other Muslim communities.
* Arabic is also one of the most common languages in the world. Islamic conquests and Arabization of the Middle East and North Africa accelerated the spread of it. Arabic is also used commonly in other Muslim communities.
* French is another
language used commonly. For example, French is spoken in Bengali and these
speakers outnumber native speakers of French. In addition to its wide use, it
has a linguistic prestige and it is used diplomacy and international trade.
* Chinese has a large
group of native speakers but it is not used widely as an international language
over the world.
According to us, a common language is necessary in this global village. We need a global language for the harmony of world. Formerly, the main goal of education was to meet the social and economic needs of nation by equipping them with national conscious. However, in the new world order, the goal of education has changed. The aim of the education is to bring up individuals having universal values. There is a need for global education which will prepare new generations to live cooperatively in global world and of course a common language for this global education. It is inevitable to cooperate and communicate without a common language in all fields.

(a global language for cooperation)
Some people do not approve this situation and associate with cultural imperialism. They regard international languages as the languages of oppression.
We mentioned the globalization, global language,
reasons, consequences and our attitude to subject and we want to learn your
ideas through some questions.
???
* Should
there be a common language over the world?
* Should
English be a global language?·
*Is global language a cultural imperialism?
*Is global language a cultural imperialism?
* Are
globalization and global language inevitable?

SUBJECT: This house believes in a global language.
Thank you for sharing such a good work with us! I think you did a great job. First of all, I liked the way you divided your subject into sub-topics. It is a well-prepared writing. It is both easy and enjoyable to read. You gave us enough and comprehensive information about globalization and global language. In my opinion, it seems that globalization and global language is inevitable even if there are some negative effects of globalization on people. Secondly, I liked your page design. All the visual materials are related to your subject. In addition, the videos that you uploaded are really nice. I agree with the man in the videos.
YanıtlaSilI hope we can discuss this subject in the class more. Your research will help us think it from different perspectives. Thank you very much again!
I really liked your writing style. You clearly stated what is going on about global languages and your attitude towards global language. Firstly, I want to thank you that 'Esperanto' information. I did not know there is a artificial language just created as an aim of being global language. Secondly,although you say that we are in favour of a global language, I do not agree with you. In my opinion, every region in the world has different survival techniques, different thinking styles, so there should be different languages. Cultural differences are very important and they should be preserved. One way to do this is preserving the languages. Thirdly, English should not be a global language. Every language is special and they are not superior to one another. If you think that English should be a global language, why do you think so? Why is it not Spanish or Latin? I think, if everbody knows a common language, interpreter occupation can be lost for ever. Though it seems that I do not agree with you on some issues, I really liked your work. Thanks for your sharings. :)
YanıtlaSilMy Dear friends,
YanıtlaSilFirst of all, I would like to say that I really liked your work. It is well-prepared. Each part gives an answer to a different question related to your topic. You have expressed your ideas and perspective clearly. You have also supported your subject by using data. It is not hard for me to follow the flow of your ideas. In my opinion, individual differences should be saved because they are the things which distinguish us from each other, and our language is one of these individual differences. However, I do not think that learning global language gives any harm to our mother tongue. I also agree with you that it is a need for cooperation and communication of people all around the world in all fields, but which language should be global one is another controversial issue. Thanks for your effort :)
I want to say that I had fun while reading your work. It has an interesting topic and you did a good job. It is well-prepared and clear. I think there should be a common language, so why not English? It could be Spanish but we would ask the same question again, why Spanish? I don't care if children learn English in schools. I agree with Esra, it doesn't give any harm to our mother tongue. I also think that a common language makes our lives easier in every field. It is a good topic to discuss and I can't wait for your presentation. Thanks again :)
YanıtlaSilFirst of all, I should say that you have prepared your work delicately. You have used appropriate and informative data especially about historical and political processes of globalization. Additionally, your visual aids, comparisons and numeric data have reinforced your information about issue of globalization and global language. In my opinion, the tendency of using a global language is inevitable in this globalizing world. Although this common usage makes the interrelations among different countries, it should not be permitted that the common language cause corruption of each unique native language. Otherwise, the global language becomes a cultural imperialism. During your presentation, I am sure that we can discuss this issue in detail thanks to your valuable information, thanks for your sharings :)
YanıtlaSilI guess we need to comment on these articles after reading. What a hard obligation! Anyway, your writing style is very good as everybody says. I learn lots of things from you, but you could not convince me if there should be a global language or not. As an answer to your first question, I want to say that there is no need for a common language, because variety gives us the chance of selecting among the languages. I can say what I want to tell in a mixed language, for example. This helps me communicate more effectively and meaningfully. You ask us if English should be a global language. I do not think so, because no language is superior to others if we analyze like linguists. The thought of English as a global language can cause a chaos all over the world. In addition to these ones, I want to ask something. ''English is spoken as a first language in united states, England and Canada.'' Can not we say United Kingdom instead of only England? another thing: is not it be more suitable to use 'speaker' instead of using 'user' in the sentence ''... and it has over 1.8 billion users.'' Here is the end. Thank you for reading my comment. 'See you next week' :)
YanıtlaSilMy dear friends,
YanıtlaSilFirstly, I want to celebrate your efforts for this journal.You wrote your topic in depth.I liked your language use because it is very understandable and smart.It seems that you made much effort for this work.I should say that your work is well done.You have clasified your sub-topics and given necessary information.Moreover, you have written about historical events that affected the globalization.You have shared detailed statistics about languages spoken around the world.You have seperated your topic into smaller parts and this provides us with more detailed information about the subject.Your group's visual materials that were used with the text contributed its effectiveness so much.By the way, you have told causes and effects in an explanatory way.Thanks for giving some extra information in your passage .That kind of information is useful and interesting.It also keeps the reader's interest.Finally,I should say that your journal is easy to read and enjoyable.Your grammar usages ,sentence structures are perfect as well.Thank you so much for such kind of passage.
First of all,I would like to say that I liked your writing.I appreciate you because of your efforts for your writing.It seems that group members worked in harmony becuse it is really well-prepared job.Sequences of clauses are quitely strong.Your relevant details about topic are also effective.Although your topic a bit difficult,you explained it explicitly.Another thing which I would like to say is that you are good at shaping your writing.Your language and grammar usage are good as well.You have supported your passage with extra information such as histrocial events,statistics etc.I should say that I liked the way you wrote as your passage is clear and easy to read.You have wrote your ideas in a well-organized manner.You have mentioned many aspects of your topic coherently.Thank you.
YanıtlaSilMy dear classmates,
YanıtlaSilEven before I started reading your article, I liked the pictures, the videos and the design of your article. Thank you for informing us about such a subject that carries a lot of importance. I liked the way you used the grammar and especially the words that you picked to use. Even though globalization and global language is such a long,detailed and hard subject to work on, you explained it in such a clear way. Especially listing the major topics was a good idea for us, the readers, to comprehend the article in a better way. I agree with you on the fact that a global language should be supported and I think English is a good choice. I realize that many of the most important languages around the world (French, Spanish etc) come from Latin. Morever, English is the easiest to learn for many people. I liked that you also emphasized the importance of those languages. Thank you for your entertaining and well-organized article! It is a great source for us!
First of all, I want to thank you my dear friends for preparing this well-organized presentation. I really like the way you organizing it. You made a suitable start by introducing the concept that you studied on. The information you gave us made me interested in globalization and global language. In addition to that, your reading consists of several paragraphs which informs us about different types of related topics. Therefore, I read the entire writing with pleasure and it did not bore me.Actually, it is important for a writing to prove your ideas about the issue. For this reason,you made a excellent job by using data or demonstrations about the topic. I think there should be a global language. it is actually inevitable in this global world. However, which one should be used? I really do not have a certain idea about it, but I guess English is the best one. We will talk over it later. Thank you again for your efforts:)
YanıtlaSilDear Aysel, Helin and Tuğçe,
YanıtlaSilThank you for informing us about this issue. Good visual aids. Also, the videos of David Crystal are very enlightening. I want to answer your discussion questions. In my opinion, there should be a common language over the world. However, by saying that I do not mean people should give up speaking their own languages and speak a global language. I mean that every nation should have their own language and they should learn another language which will be used over the world. Yet, I cannot say that this language should be English. People tend to use the language of the nation which is technologically, economically and politically powerful but this nation should be another one after years. Global language may be a cultural imperialism but it also may not. It depends on for what purpose a language is tried to be taught. Lastly, I do not think that global language is inevitable. It is true that a lot of language vanished throughout the history, but a language cannot be easily vanished unless the people who use that language die out or intend to change their language. Thanks for your effort again. :)
My dear friends;
YanıtlaSilWhile I was reading this, I could not find anything bad or wrong. Every idea you put into is well-considered and well-researched. You approach this topic with all aspects and define it in very clear way. The way of language using is also perfect. You must have put too much effort in it. I really enjoyed and obtain many new information. Thanks for everything :)
Congratulations to all of you,
YanıtlaSilThe article you wrote is great. You mentioned every detail you should mention. It is a really long article but it does not bore readers, at least me. You expressed your ideas clearly. There is nothing to say bad but its length. It can be a little shorter. I also want to answer one of your questions. I think there certanly should be a global language. Without it, it would be really difficult for people from different countries to communicate. To sum up, Your article is very good. I appreciate you.
Dear Aysel, Helin and Tuğçe,
YanıtlaSilThank you for enlighten us about this topic. I really enjoyed while reading it. I think you have provided us with something beneficial and funny. I also liked the way you use language. I could not find any grammatical mistakes in it. It is certain that you have made researches and use of different sources very well. It was really a nice experience to read it. Thank you for your effort.
My dear classmates,
YanıtlaSilAs a beğinning,I liked your article very much because when I first shot a glance on it,I realized that it was an enjoyable essay to read.The reason why I thought so is that you used visual supplies effectively and your paragraphs din't bore me while I was reading since you avoided using long sentences and long paragraphs. Secondly,your subject itself also is quite intriguing and immediately attracted my interest.I have always wondered why English is the global language and why another language wasn't chosen for such an aim(enabling communication throughout the world)and now I have found out this reasons owing to you.There are almost no grammatical mistakes,as well.Thanks for sharing your ideas with us and I appreciate your work.You really did a good job.
My dear friends,
YanıtlaSilI really liked your writing very much. Your subject is very interesting and you managed to use its attraction in an effective way. Also, your processing the idea is very successful. You discussed the idea, its reasons and consequences, and your point of view about it. Lastly, you asked some questions to people who read your writing to be sure that whether it is understood clearly, or not. Let me tell you my answers to your questions. Firstly, yes. There should a common language over the world. Otherwise, it would be so hard to communicate among the nations. Secondly, I am not sure. English is the global language, but should it really be? I am not sure. Thirdly, yes. It is the most obvious sign of imperialism. And lastly, yes. It is inevitable because we are humans. We are created to communicate. Without communication, we would not have much different from animals or plants. Thank you for your writing again. I really appreciated it. :)
Dear Aysel,Helin and Tugçe,
YanıtlaSilI would like to say that your article is really well prepared.I liked the way you represented the subject.I think that you expressed your ideas clearly and briefly.However, I don't think that there should be a global language because harmony cannot be provided by a global language or a global education .Global language is just a kind of standardization which leads different languages to disappear and the further step of global language will result in vanishing of different cultures and traditions therefore global language is just a way of the system, which wants to make people act in same way, to make it easier to rule them.I believe that we should keep differences instead of throwing them aside.All the same , Congratulations to all of you for your good piece of work.
Fisrt of all, I like the picture you chose. I attracts me. Also, the page design is good.It didn't bore me while I was reading. In addition, thank you all for sharing this work with us. you gave me really comprehensive information. It is well-prepared job. It makes me interested in globalization and global language.Thanks you all for sharing your ideas with us. I appreciates you and your work.
YanıtlaSilDears friends!
YanıtlaSilI want to start by saying that your writing is certainly informative. while I was reading it, I bored a bit but I got so much information from it, too. I liked the way you used language. also, there is no grammatical mistake as I can see. moreover, the videos you had chosen is supporting of your ideas. thanks for this writing :)
Dear friends,
YanıtlaSilFirst of all, thanks for your effort. As a Foreign Language Education student, I have found the topic very attractive and important. Also, I like your writing style and the way you use language .I think it is a quite beneficial article as well as being well-organized one. I like the videos and the pictures too.
Secondly, in my opinion, a global language makes the communication around the world easier. It does not matter which language it is. As long as we preserve our own culture and mother tongue, we can use a global language.
Finally, thank you. I read your writing pleasantly. See you tomorrow.
Dear friends ,
YanıtlaSilIn my opinion, you have done good job ! It was such a pleasure to read your ideas and watch the related videos. Your grammar is good and you have expressed your ideas clearly and properly. I also agree with you about the globalization and global language. Lastly , I really liked your visual sources and they made me more interested in the topic. Thank you for sharing your ideas ! :)
My dear friends,
YanıtlaSilFirstly, I want to say that your job is very good, I like it. Also you explain the idea very well. Your grammar is good and besides these you have very flowing style. Secondly, your article is informative. You choose intresting visual aids and this makes your article more enjoyable.
In my opinion a global language can ease our lifes but also I think that differentness makes this world much more livable. Language is just like a colour and I do not want just one colour.
:) Thank you :)
Dear Aysel, Tuğçe and Helin
SilI realy liked your post. You handled every aspect I like to learn about globalization and why english is global language. The pictures are relevant to subject and also good choice.
In addition to these, asking questions is also good idea.
About should a global language there be, I think absolutely there should be a global language because communication is inevitable and for communication a common language is needed.
About English's being global language, I think it is appropriate for being common language as English has all of the the necessities which the common language must have.
Thanks for sharing, good job !
Dear Friends,
YanıtlaSilI found your entry very successful in many aspects. Firstly, your writing style is quite fluent; thus, it attracts readers' attention easily and keeps them attached throughout the text. In addition, the organization of the text is very clear and makes the passage easy to understand . Secondly, your topic is very interesting and provides us with a large amount of information which is necessary to improve our general knowledge. Finally, you managed to bring a lot of information together in a neat essay successfully. To sum up, except for a few minor grammar mistakes, I liked reading a text about global language and globalization very much as a person who is interested in such topics related to current subjects.
Dear friends, it was very informative for me to read your entry. In my opinion global language is accceptable for some reasons such as easiness in communication but choosing a global language may not be easy because all nations cannot use English easily or Turkish etc. The difference between nations is not because of the difference of languages but the differences of thoughts. If you teach a new language to a killer, he can think to kill you still.
YanıtlaSilDear friends,I believe that it is a very good job. It explains many things about the subject. It is very informative. The design of the paper is also very good. Thanks for this informative and good article.
YanıtlaSilDear friends,
YanıtlaSilyour writing is very informative for me. I think the world would become smaller when everyone starts to speak the same language. People can understand each other easily. The videos that you put are very relevant to the topic. And in my opinion, English can be a global language.
